Help A Soldier’s Journey Home Identify Land for a Future Veteran Home

A Soldier’s Journey Home (ASJH) is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that brings together first responders, veterans, tradespeople, business leaders, and community volunteers to build specially adapted, mortgage-free, accessible homes for veterans with disabilities.

Since completing our first home in 2015, ASJH has built homes across the country using an extraordinary model: more than 150 volunteers come together to complete each home in just under three weeks. Our volunteers donate their time, talents, and often their own vacation days to make
each build possible.

ASJH is currently exploring a future build opportunity in South Jersey and is seeking assistance from the local building, development, and real-estate communities in identifying a suitable residential parcel.

Our search is focused primarily within Cape May County and the surrounding South Jersey area, based upon the needs of a prospective veteran family.  Securing a property that works both for the family and for ASJH’s unique construction process is an important step in determining whether the project can move forward.

Because suitable residential land can be difficult to identify through traditional listings alone, we are asking members of the community to help us think creatively. We would welcome conversations regarding buildable lots, unlisted or off-market properties, developer-held parcels, municipal or redevelopment opportunities, bank-owned properties, or land that an individual or organization may be interested in donating or making available to the project.

The ideal property would be 2-3 acres, capable of accommodating a single-story, accessible home and provide sufficient access for the volunteers, equipment, deliveries, and construction activity required during ASJH’s intensive three-week build.

At this point, we are simply trying to identify opportunities. There is no expectation that a property be donated - a lead, introduction, or conversation with someone who may know of an appropriate parcel could be just as valuable.

If you own property, know of an available parcel, or have a relationship with a developer, municipality, bank, landowner, or other organization that may be able to assist, we would greatly appreciate hearing from you.

Sometimes finding the right piece of property starts with one person making one introduction.
